Scientific abstract里堆满may/could/possibly不是intellectual humility,是语言不自信穿了件白大褂。
So what did you actually find?' It may be possible that the observed trend could potentially reflect a real effect.'
你的动词是suggest、indicate、are consistent with。 你忽略这条会怎样?n=24你写'demonstrate',reviewer笑你;500人trial你写'it may be possible',reader觉得你对自己work都不确定。
The intervention may reduce symptoms, although the effect could be small and might not generalize.'
❌ 'It may be possible that the 8-week exercise intervention could potentially have a positive effect on cardiovascular recovery, although the sample size may limit the generalizability of these findings.' ✅ 'The 8-week exercise intervention improved cardiovascular recovery (p<0.01, n=42). The sample size limits generalizability, but the effect was consistent across subgroups.' claim一句话,limitation下一句,而且specific(n=42, subgroups)而不是vague的'may limit'。
❌ 'We believe that these results might suggest a possible association between dietary saturated fat intake and circulating inflammatory markers, and that further research may be needed to better understand this relationship in broader populations.' ✅ 'These results support an association between dietary saturated fat intake and circulating inflammatory markers. Broader-population replication is the next step.' 没有'we believe',没有'might suggest a possible',没有'may be needed to better understand'。
The mechanism underlying this effect remains unclear; targeted mechanistic studies are needed.'
❌ 'The findings could perhaps indicate that the underlying biological mechanism is not fully understood, and it may be necessary to conduct additional longitudinal studies to further investigate this phenomenon in greater depth.' ✅ 'The mechanism remains unclear; longitudinal follow-up is needed.' Hedging is not intellectual humility. It is linguistic insecurity in a lab coat. 你不需要'配'说'this is what we found'。
